On July 12, 2023, Rep. Jeff Jackson spoke on the House Floor to oppose Sen. Tuberville’s block of military nominations and its negative effects on our national security.

Sen. Tuberville’s actions have stopped the nominations of 250 high-ranking military officers so far - including the Commandant of the Marine Corps, the highest ranking Marine - leaving the branch without a Senate confirmed leader for the first time since 1910.

Jackson: “The notion that all of these positions should be vacant because one Senator objects to the Defense Department’s travel policy regarding service members who get an abortion is a perfect example of letting culture war politics impact our military.

This year we have been treated to countless speeches about whether politics has infected our military, and whether that’s impacted readiness.

And now the single clearest example of culture war politics colliding with our military is the blockage of top military leaders.”

“When in doubt, act in a way that will frustrate your enemy. This does the opposite.”
