City of Belmont issued the following announcement on May 23.

Restoration work began on the Fighting Yank statue in Stowe Park today. A complete conservation and repair treatment is being completed so that the statue will be restored to its original condition. The statue was originally erected on the former Belmont Middle School/Belmont High School site in 1946. It was moved to its current location in Stowe Park in 2014.
