County of Gaston issued the following announcement on Dec. 5.
GASTONIA — With a major renovation and remodeling project on tap, the Gaston County Public Health Department is offering in-person opportunities for the public to provide input on the future of its main facility on Hudson Boulevard in Gastonia.
On Monday, December 12th, Public Health will provide drop-in opportunities from 1-4 p.m., at its facility at 991 W. Hudson Blvd., in the community classroom for residents to learn more about the project and share their thoughts. Later that day, beginning at 6 p.m., the Health Department and representatives from the selected architect for the project, McMillan Pazdan Smith, will provide a formal presentation on the draft plans.
“We’re excited to engage our community to get their thoughts on how our Public Health team and facility can provide even better service to Gaston County,” Public Health Director Steve Eaton said. “This project is one that will amplify our ability to improve the health and wellbeing of Gaston County residents.
The County has set aside $12 million in funding from Medicaid Cost Settlement funds for the project, meaning the renovation will not be funded by local property or sales tax collections. The facility has not been fully updated in more than 15 years, and work will be completed in phases spread out over several years.
