A day after Gaston County’s Board of Commissioners Chairman Tracy Philbeck issued a strong warning to organizations to avoid large gatherings, the County is taking the lead by canceling several events.

This is a proactive measure done with the interest of protecting the public during the coronavirus outbreak and helping slow the spread of the virus. So far, no confirmed cases have been reported in Gaston County.

A sample of just some of the events that are canceled or postponed is listed below.

All regular scheduled classes for the weeks of March 16th and March 23rd are canceled

The small group AARP tax prep sessions that have already been booked and the March 14th Identity Theft Seminar with Gaston County Police will continue as planned.

Decisions to run athletic events at county parks will be up to the discretion of the individual organizations.

Gaston County Museum

An evening of Celtic Music and Mythic Tales with Jamie Laval, scheduled for tonight, has been postponed until a later date. Those with tickets should check the artist’s website (JamieLaval.com) for more details.
