Rep. Kelly Hastings (R-Cherryville) encouraged North Carolina residents to look toward the future during the current pandemic as he discussed future plans for the district.

On Facebook, Hastings published a letter to residents about district projects underway, as a way to offer constituents a measure of hope.

"During the COVID-19 pandemic, we can’t stop working and planning for the future," Hastings said in the post. "Through the years, I’ve made many comments supporting projects in Gaston, Cleveland and Lincoln counties and the whole state; this is part of the process that helped us achieve funding for hundreds of millions of dollars of transportation projects for our area, and billions for the whole state."

Hastings is working on two transportation projects with the Gaston-Cleveland-Lincoln Metropolitan Planning Organization. The projects will help the state recover from the economic impact the coronavirus has had it.

In his Facebook post, Hastings said lawmakers "are still fighting for transportation projects that will help our area and the whole state as we recover from the pandemic and start to see more light at the end of the tunnel."
