GASTON COUNTY: Gaston County Receives Funds to Help Boost Tourism

Business discussion

Gaston County recently issued the following announcement.

Gaston County Travel and Tourism is hoping to see an increase in visitor spending in the coming months thanks to a special credit from Visit NC. The department received $100,000 to cover the marketing expenses to promote Gaston County’s tourism industry, which in turn, may attract visitors to the area.

Michael Applegate, Director of Gaston County Travel & Tourism, said, “We deeply appreciate the efforts of Visit NC and those who worked feverishly to secure these recovery funds for our industry.” Applegate added, “Our allocation will provide support for local tourism partners with digital promotions in key media markets highlighting events and visitor experiences available in Gaston County during the fourth quarter.”

This action by Visit NC is in response to the devastating financial impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on North Carolina’s travel and hospitality businesses. Visit NC created a stimulus recovery Marketing Co-Op Credit Program to aid governmental entities that are authorized to collect an occupancy tax in the state through their Tourism Development Authority (TDA) organizations or destination marketing organizations (DMOs).

The money for the Visit NC Marketing Co-Op Credit Program was provided by the federal CARES Act and will be used in accordance with its guidelines. For more information about the program, visit https://partners.visitnc.com/visit-nc-marketing-credit-program.
