GASTON COUNTY: Response Deadline for 2020 Census Quickly Approaching

Census2020logo

Gaston County issued the following announcement on Sept. 16.

If you have not completed the 2020 Census for your household, time is running out. The self-response deadline is Wednesday, September 30, and as of September 15, only about 61 percent of residents in Gaston County have self-responded to the Census.

To help boost participation and response rates, Census takers have been going door-to-door since the beginning of August to follow up with all households that have not yet responded to the 2020 Census. Gaston County residents can avoid that knock on the door by responding online at www.2020census.gov, by calling 1-844-330-2020, or by mailing in your completed questionnaire.

The data collected by the Census will be used to determine how billions of dollars in federal funds will be allocated to local, state, and federal programs each year for the next decade.

The results will show where communities need new schools, new clinics, new roads, and more services for families, older adults, and children. The data will also show how funds will be allocated to programs like Medicaid, Head Start, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP.
