Governor Roy Cooper said that the North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) confirmed 16 grant requests to the cities and counties that qualified, totaling $4,511,075.

Grant recipients included Gaston and Lincoln counties, an October release from the governor's office said

"North Carolina's rural communities need support to upgrade their infrastructure to attract good jobs and build a stronger future," Cooper said in a press release. "Investments like Rural Infrastructure grants signal to businesses and communities that our state is ready for economic development despite the challenges of the pandemic."

Lincoln County received a $250,000 grant to support the reuse of a building in Lincolnton that measures 115,924-square-foot, the release stated.

Additionally, Taiji Medical Supplies plans to produce much needed N95 respirators in the building, the release stated.

Gaston County has received a $200,000 grant to build a new infrastructure that will connect the Bessemer City water system to the Two Rivers utility system.

Moreover, Bessemer City has teamed up with the City of Gastonia to install a vital water system that will provide better quality water to the area's residents.
