A Belmont startup company, Curate, has been given an award from NC IDEA Foundation, the nonprofit said in an October release.
Curate is a company that helps other businesses grow their audience by using hashtags on social media, according to its website.
"Spanning cleantech to consumer products to medical devices and software, this group is a great representation of the diverse economic potential of the state," NC IDEA President and CEO Thom Ruhe said in the foundation's release.
The $160,000 in grants went to startups in various towns throughout the state. Since the program started in 2018, NC IDEA has awarded $770,000 to 77 startups.
The foundation said in the release that 161 companies applied for the award and went through a rigorous application process that spanned three months.
"For many of these young companies, it is their first external validation that they are pursuing something that can become a great company, and it is very rewarding for us to help them on that journey," Ruhe said in the release.
