CITY OF GASTONIA: City of Gastonia Announces Christmas and New Year’s Closings, Schedule Changes

City of Gastonia issued the following announcement on Dec. 16.

Christmas and New Year’s Day will affect office hours and services provided by the City of Gastonia. City administrative offices will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 24; Friday, Dec. 25 and Friday, Jan. 1.

Solid Waste:

  • Garbage will be collected on Thursday, Dec. 24.
  • No collection on Friday, Dec. 25. Friday and Monday routes will be collected on Monday, Dec. 28.
  • No collection on Friday, Jan. 1. Friday and Monday routes will be collected on Monday, Jan. 4.
  • Yard waste collection in January, including discarded live Christmas trees, will occur on customers’ regular pickup day Jan. 11-15. Artificial Christmas trees are not yard waste. They are considered household trash.
  • Residents can use the WasteWise app and webpage to keep track of garbage, leaf vacuuming and yard waste pickup schedules.
Transit:

  • Buses will run a Saturday schedule on Thursday, Dec. 24.
  • No transit service on Friday, Dec. 25 or Friday, Jan 1.
  • No charge to ride Gastonia Transit buses through Jan. 31, 2021.
Parks and Recreation:

  • City parks will be open sunrise to sunset during the holidays. Social distancing and mask requirements apply.
  • Skeet and Trap Range closed Dec. 24, 25 and 31, and Jan. 1. Fields are limited to five shooters at a time.
Schiele Museum:

  • Closed December 24-December 27. Reopening on Monday, Dec. 28.
  • Regular hours on Friday, Jan. 1.
  • Museum tickets must be reserved in advance.
