Caraccident

City of Gastonia Police Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 19.

Detectives from the Gastonia Police Department (GPD) – Traffic Enforcement Bureau continue to investigate the December 18 fatal collision that occurred on E. Hudson Boulevard near Forbes Road. Investigators have determined that speed was a factor in this collision and are asking anyone who may have witnessed this collision or anyone who may have witnessed the driving behavior of the operator of the 2006 Nissan 350Z that was involved in this collision to contact investigators at 704-842-5166.

On Saturday, December 18 at approximately 2:09 p.m., GPD officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to E. Hudson Boulevard near Forbes Road for the report of a serious collision involving three vehicles.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2006 Nissan 350Z was traveling eastbound on E. Hudson boulevard approaching Forbes Road at a high rate of speed. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan struck a 1990 GMC Sierra truck that was stopped in a left turn lane on E. Hudson Boulevard.  After being struck by the Nissan, the Sierra then struck a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox that was also stopped in a left turn lane on E. Hudson Boulevard.  After striking the Sierra, the Nissan left the roadway and entered the wooded area near Forbes Road.

The driver of the Nissan, identified as James Billy Darrell Brown, age 22, of Gastonia, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The 50-year-old male driver of the Sierra was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 56-year-old female driver of the Equinox was not injured in the collision.

This collision remains under investigation.
