City of Belmont issued the following announcement on Apr. 11.
Welcome to our newest (and cutest) city contractors and residents! These goats will be “goatscaping” the land on the west side of E. Catawba Street and south side of Wilkinson Blvd near Abbey Creek. They have been brought in to clear out the overgrown underbrush and eat the invasive kudzu that has taken over this area. These goats are environmentally friendly, will have minimal negative impact to the area ecosystems, and let’s be honest they are so much more fun to see then heavy construction equipment!
These goats will be “eating” on the job until late fall. They will be moved to different locations when they finish goatscaping the area in their enclosure.
Motorist will be able to see the goats when driving on E. Catawba Street. PLEASE do NOT stop or park on the side of E. Catawba Street to go see the goats. This can be dangerous for you and others. The goats are also behind an electric fence.
So, if you would like to meet and pet the goats they will be in downtown Belmont for Garibaldi Festival Goes Green on Saturday, April 30.
