Congressman Tim Moore criticized recent actions and statements by a Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board member, Melissa Easley, in a series of tweets posted on September 15, 2025. Moore’s comments addressed the handling of student tributes and the messaging being sent to students within the district.
In his first post, Moore stated, “Think about the sick message Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board member Melissa Easley is sending to students: If you disagree with someone, their death isn’t worth mourning. This kind of cruelty has no place in our schools.” (September 15, 2025).
He followed up by expressing appreciation for media coverage of the issue: “Thank you to @Brett_Jensen for his great reporting on this.” (September 15, 2025).
Later that evening, Moore questioned administrative responses at Ardrey Kell High School regarding student tributes. He wrote, “Investigating for what?? Students across the country are mourning. Ardrey Kell High had no issue with tributes before… now Charlie Kirk’s name is a problem? Disgusting double standard.” (September 15, 2025).
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools have faced scrutiny over decisions related to public displays and remembrances involving figures associated with political activism. The discussion intensified following concerns about consistency in allowing or restricting such tributes.
Timothy K. Moore was re-elected in 2024 after defeating Pam Genant in the general election with approximately 58% of the vote.
