Congressman Tim Moore has introduced the Securing Our Border Act, aiming to redirect unspent Internal Revenue Service (IRS) funds towards enhancing border security measures. The funding was initially designated for hiring 87,000 additional IRS enforcement agents.
“Our southern border was left wide open under the previous administration, and Americans paid the price with more drugs and more crime in our communities,” stated Congressman Moore. “Thanks to President Trump, we’ve finally got a secure border again, but we need to keep it that way. The Securing Our Border Act gives our Border Patrol agents the resources and tools they need to finish the job.”
The legislation is cosponsored by Representatives Randy Weber of Texas’ 14th district, Dan Crenshaw of Texas’ 2nd district, and Buddy Carter of Georgia’s 1st district.
Senator Tim Scott introduced this legislation in the Senate. He commented on its significance: “Without borders, a nation is not a nation. President Biden’s ill-advised decision to supercharge the IRS while we had a crisis on our southern border couldn’t have been more out-of-touch or unnecessary. In just two weeks back in office, President Trump has signaled to the world that he is serious about securing our border and restoring peace and order in our communities. By redirecting these funds, we are taking steps to protect our national sovereignty and keep Americans safe.”
The Securing Our Border Act proposes several measures:
1) Funding nonintrusive border inspections aimed at preventing illicit drug and human trafficking into the United States.
2) Financing construction of border walls and technologies designed to bolster tracking and enforcement efforts along the southwestern border.
3) Authorizing Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to offer bonuses for recruiting and retaining Border Patrol agents.
4) Ending President Biden’s “catch and release” policy by mandating that aliens arriving from contiguous territories are returned there or to a safe third country pending immigration proceedings completion.
