Gaston County Schools have made changes to their grading policies for the remainder of the school year, allowing students to have a choice in how their final grades will appear, the Gaston Gazette reported.
Students who are not graduating this year have two options to choose from, one that allows the student to earn a traditional grade from either their grade from before school switched to online learning or the current grade. The student will get credit for the class and the grade will be used to calculate the student's GPA, the news agency reported.
With the second option, students will get either a pass or withdraw for the class and if they earn a pass, they will receive class credit, but if they don't they are able to retake the class. With this option, neither a pass nor a withdraw will affect the student's GPA, according to the news agency.
For seniors, only fall grades will count unless a student is failing and then, the school district must provide an opportunity for students to improve their grades.
