Sen. Ted Alexander (R-Cleveland) recently touted the accomplishments that Republicans have made in the General Assembly regarding funding education, over the past decade, regardless of criticisms to the contrary.
In a post to his official Facebook page, Alexander shared a graph of the state's spending on education, indicating a steady rise in spending from the 2010-2011 academic year to the 2019-2020 academic year, the Republican lawmaker said in a July 23 Facebook post.
“With #NCEd again in the spotlight, it's a good time to revisit the basic facts about education spending under Republican control,” Alexander posted. “The bottom line: Education funding in NC has increased by $968 per student in just four years and $1,748 per student in nine years.”
The graphic Alexander shared also claims that spending on education would have been even higher in 2019-2020, but a veto from Gov. Roy Cooper’s prevented the measure.
The graph indicates that education spending has grown statewide from $7.283 billion to $9.755 billion in the past decade.
