Belmont Abbey College introduces online sport management master's degree

Belmont Abbey College has announced the introduction of its online Master of Arts in Sport Management degree. This program, one of the few available in North Carolina, is set to begin with its first cohort in Fall 2025. The curriculum aims to equip students with leadership and management skills for roles within sports teams, leagues, and organizations.

The program will focus on building brands, engaging fans, and driving revenue growth through marketing and digital strategies. Students will also have networking opportunities with industry leaders. The course is grounded in Catholic and Benedictine traditions, emphasizing character development and sound business principles.

Dr. Bill Thierfelder, president of Belmont Abbey College, expressed confidence in the faculty's ability to prepare students for success in sports management. He stated that the program reflects the college's commitment to developing ethical leaders who can transform the sports world.

The online format offers flexibility for working professionals seeking career advancement in sports management. The curriculum includes topics such as sports marketing, event management, and strategic leadership.

Joe Wysocki, Provost of Belmont Abbey College, highlighted the program's holistic approach to education that meets modern students' needs. Dr. Trey Cunningham, Program Director of the MA in Sport Management at Belmont Abbey College, emphasized the balance between gaining industry knowledge and maintaining personal commitments.

The program can be completed in 12 months through asynchronous learning. It prepares students for careers such as Sport Operations Manager or Athletic Director. Applications are open for Fall 2025 pending final approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
