On January 7th, CaroMont Regional Medical Center – Belmont officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event was attended by President Thierfelder, Abbot Placid, and CaroMont executives. Earlier in the week, CaroMont Health CEO Chris Peek and Vice President of Operations Richard Blackburn led a private tour for the guests.

Belmont Abbey College expressed its support for the new medical center. Abbot Placid highlighted the monks' commitment to community care, stating it is a significant milestone in their mission of love and hospitality over nearly 150 years. Discussions about establishing a hospital in Belmont began in 2019 between Chris Peek, Dr. Thierfelder, and Abbot Placid.

The college anticipates positive impacts from the new facility on both the broader community and its nursing students. Starting Fall 2025, students will train at the hospital and complete clinicals there. Additionally, Belmont Abbey College looks forward to integrating CaroMont’s nurses into its BSN and MSN programs.
